about us
&
our mission
The Productive Peasant Farm Co. is a one-acre bio-intensive farm growing chemical-free vegetables, fruits, and herbs in the rich river hills of East Prospect, Pennsylvania. We cater to home cooks through our Small Family Salad and Side Dish CSA and our through our market stand at the Fresh Market at Hershey Towne Square every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8am to 4:30pm. We also serve chefs at some of the finest local restaurants, as well as independent grocers and market vendors in Lancaster.
Our mission at The Productive Peasant Farm Co. is to bring greater joy and health to people’s lives through the provision of the freshest, tastiest, most beautiful, and most nutritious produce possible. We select the varietals we grow with flavor-first and aesthetic-conscious clientele in mind. Through our dedication to craft and personal service we guarantee our customers and partners a pleasant, restorative experience. And we do this with an ongoing commitment to the protection and care of the land on which we work.

Healthy Land Leads to Healthy People
We aim to bring you the healthiest, most nutrient-dense produce possible. We do not use any chemicals on our farm, and we use loads of locally-sourced organic compost to build up the health of our soil for years to come. We do not till our raised beds, in an effort to preserve the organic matter and biological life that improves soil and plant quality for years to come. And rather than throw down one particular type or mixture of fertilizer across the farm, we source our fertilizers from a local supplier who provides us with numerous small batches of custom-blended fertilizers tailored to each specific crop that we grow. This means that each crop we grow is getting exactly what it needs, and the flavor that comes as a result justifies the extra cost and effort. Healthy soils lead to healthy plants, which leads to healthier people.

Optional Fruit Add-ons now available for $5, $10, or $15/week

Early Bird December & January Sign ups get a 10% discount!
Each week, you and your family will receive an assortment of the freshest seasonal ingredients that can be easily assembled into a variety of healthy salads and side dishes throughout the week. In addition to receiving a regular delivery of our very own spring mix and fixings for summer salads such as cherry tomatoes, cucumber, radishes, sweet baby turnips and carrots, you will receive additional greens, veggies and fruits that can be transformed into tasty gourmet salads and side dishes with minimal effort.
By providing two or three recipes each week and the vast majority of the ingredients that these recipes call for, your grocery shopping and meal prep should be simplified. In order to make the recipes included in a typical week, you may only need to buy (or have on hand already) oil, vinegar, or perhaps some meat or cheese should you choose to include those ingredients. You will receive an email no less than two days prior to receiving each box which will include a list of produce you will receive along with featured recipes that allow you to plan your meals with those ingredients. You will also receive a very short “need to have on hand” list of ingredients called for by the recipes but not included in your CSA box.
Most of the products in our shares will be seasonal chemical-free produce coming directly from our farm. Produce that is called for by the recipes but not grown on our farm will be procured from other local organic farms and vendors that we partner with, and we will inform you on who we have partnered with each week. The few non-organic items included during the season are limited to products that are difficult to find from local organic growers, such as tree fruits and nuts, or other minimally-processed items, such as croutons or flat-bread pizza crusts made by local bakeries. By supplementing our own produce with products from other local businesses, your support is being spread more widely throughout our community!
Optional Fruit Add-On
Members can now choose to have additional fruits included in their weekly CSA boxes! For an additional $5, $10, or $15 per week of your membership, we will include certified organic fruits that we have available to us, aiming to alternate the types of fruits you receive each week. Some examples are listed below:
Example: $5/Week
Week 1: 2 apples, 2 oranges
Week 2: 1 lb. bananas, 2 grapefruit
Week 3: 1 pint strawberries
Example: $10/Week
Week 1: 2 apples, 2 oranges, 1 pint blueberries
Week 2: 1 lb. bananas, 2 grapefruit, 1 half-pint raspberries
Week 3: 1 pint strawberries, 1 pineapple

Jason Stone
Owner and Executive Director of Farm Operations and Sales
Few things bring Jason more joy than sharing the highest quality produce with home cooks, chefs and small grocers in Lancaster County. As an avid cook, he carefully selects varieties that are known for their superior flavor and aesthetic appeal, and grows them in a way that nurtures the health of the land from which they are harvested.

James Jolles
Assistant Grower
James is a recent geology PhD graduate who loves being outside and digging in the dirt. Growing up James didn't like eating vegetables, but once he got over his green bean phobia he started growing veggies on his balcony during grad school. He is excited to help The Productive Peasant Farm Co. in its new location to bring great organic produce to Lancaster County and beyond!
